Connect Google Search Console and Analytics with one sign-in
Link Search Console and Google Analytics 4 to the plugin in one step, what it can and cannot see, what it feeds, and how to disconnect.
Time
3 minutes
What you need
- The plugin installed
- A Google account that can see your site in Search Console (and in Analytics, if you want it)
Search Console tells you which searches show your pages and how often they are clicked. Google Analytics 4 tells you what visitors do next. Four of the ten agents (Keyword Scout, CTR Fixer, Cannibalization Resolver, Rank Digest) need this data, and the Refresher gets sharper with it.
Step 1: sign in
- Open OnlyAI SEO, Settings, Google and press Connect with Google.
- On Google's page, allow both read-only permissions (you can untick one if you only want Search Console).
- You come back to the plugin, which finds your Search Console property and your GA4 property by itself and tests both.
A good result reads like "Works. 12 clicks from Google in the last week". If your site cannot be matched, the card lists what your Google account has and you pick the right one.
What it can see, and what it cannot
- Search Console, read-only: which searches show your pages, clicks, impressions and positions.
- Google Analytics 4, read-only: visits, engaged visits and views per page, last 28 days against the 28 before.
- It cannot change anything in either account, and we never see your Google password.
- The sign-in passes through onlyaiseo.com only to hand your site its access. It is held encrypted for a few minutes, collected once by your site and deleted. Your numbers go from Google straight to your site.
What the data feeds
- The Insights page: quick wins, CTR rewrites, cannibalization, content decay.
- The Keywords page and the agents Keyword Scout, CTR Fixer, Cannibalization Resolver, Rank Digest and Refresher.
- The Indexation page's per-post Google index status.
If something goes wrong
- Google shows a warning screen. Google may flag an app it has not yet verified. You can continue past it.
- "No property found". The Google account you chose has no Search Console property for this site. Add and verify the site in Search Console first, or sign in with the account that owns it.
- An API is off. The card says which one in plain words (this happens mainly with your own Google app).
- Data is empty at first. Search Console needs a few days of history; press refresh on Insights after the first day.
Use a Google app of your own (advanced)
Most sites do not need this. Under Use a Google app of your own you can connect through your own Google Cloud project: turn on the Search Console API, the Google Analytics Data API and the Google Analytics Admin API, copy the authorised redirect URI shown in the card into Google Cloud, then paste the Client ID and secret and press Save Google app.
Disconnect
Press Disconnect in the same card. It also withdraws the permission at Google. You can also remove OnlyAI SEO under "Third-party apps with account access" in your Google Account.
